Kenyatta University’s BlakBlad delivered a ruthless statement after dismantling MMUST RFC 42–17 in a Kenya Cup university derby played at the Blad Bin.
MMUST, making their early strides in Kenya’s top-flight rugby, found the pace and physicality a steep learning curve against a well-drilled BlakBlad side that controlled territory, possession, and execution for most of the afternoon.
The hosts struck first, opening the scoring with an early try that set the tone. An unsettled opening quarter followed, but BlakBlad soon found rhythm, crossing twice to establish early control. MMUST responded bravely with a try of their own and added a penalty to keep the contest alive.
However, BlakBlad had the final say in the opening half, crashing over for another try to take an 18–8 lead into the break.
MMUST showed flashes of intent immediately after halftime, breaking through from deep inside their 22 with slick hands, but the move fizzled out before real damage could be done. That missed opportunity proved costly.

BlakBlad returned with purpose, stretching the MMUST defence wide. A well-worked move down the left wing saw them score again, extending the lead to 23–8, though Enoch Oduor failed to add the extras. The left flank continued to be fertile ground, and moments later BlakBlad crossed again, this time with Oduor converting to make it 30–8.
Confusion in the MMUST defensive line following a quick tap penalty allowed BlakBlad to pounce once more. The referee, Brian Nyakundi, briefly halted play to clarify the restart before awarding the try, which was duly converted to stretch the score to 37–8.
MMUST managed to slow the momentum with a penalty, trimming the deficit, but BlakBlad were relentless. A slick passing sequence sent the hosts over on the right wing to make it 42–11.
Despite a spirited defensive stand that briefly kept BlakBlad at bay, MMUST were undone again from a scrum move, with Elvis Otete powering over for another try. The conversion was missed, but the damage was already done.
MMUST grabbed a late consolation try, followed by a penalty, but it did little to change the narrative as BlakBlad comfortably closed out a dominant 42–17 victory.
