Kakamega School Rugby put up a stellar performance to win the 2024 edition of Yala opens after handing Sawagongo a 17-0 defeat.
The Barbarians put three tries past Sawagongo to bag the victory. The tries were scored Shavan Ochieng, Garang Geu and Austin Shuma who also made a conversion to seal win.
Kakamega fine run
Kakamega 7s team proved strong as they won all their matches starting from the quarters where they stun Maranda 32-00 before defeating Vihiga 27-14 in the semi-final.
On the other side Sawagongo booked a place in the finals after beating Bondo township 29-00 and Cambridge 12-7 while in the other matches, Agoro Sare lost to Vihiga 26-17 in the second semi-final while the third semi-final saw hosts Yala lose to Cambridge 37-0.

Meanwhile in the tournament’s Rugby 15s Chavakali had a tough outing as they lost to hosts St Marys Yala 12-3 whereas Vihiga beat Masibo buffaloes 08-03 while in the third quarter final St peters defeated Kakamega 13-10 while St Antony’s Kitale won 17-00 against Friends School Kamusinga booking a place in the semi-finals.
In the Semis Vihiga lost 08-05 to St Mary’s Yala while St Antony’s Kitale defeated St peters defeated 06-00 while in the finals St Mary’s lost 03-06 with St Antony’s Kitale.
