The Kenya Rugby Union has announced that the local leagues, Kenya Cup, KRU Championship and Nationwide League will not commence this weekend.

According to KRU, the new season will commence on Saturday 2 December 2023 across all three tiers. The postponement of the leagues has been necessitated by ongoing consultation and adjustment of the season’s calendar, the union has revealed.

Kenya Cup postponement

“As a result of ongoing consultation and adjustments to the seasonal calendar, the commencement of the Kenya Rugby Union 2023/24 league season has been rescheduled to take place on Saturday, December 2, 2023. This applies to all levels, including the Kenya Cup, KRU Championship, and KRU Nationwide Leagues. Details of the updated fixtures will be provided in a forthcoming communication,” the Union stated.

Last week, the Kenya Rugby Union unveiled the fixtures for the upcoming 2023/24 Kenya Cup season with the season set to kick off on November 25, 2023.

In a departure from the previous three seasons, this edition will feature 16 matchdays, reintroducing the home-and-away format for clubs within the same pool.

The regular season was slated to run until April 2024, paving the way for playoffs, semifinals, and the final. Notably, the season was to mark the return of the Top Six playoffs, where teams ranked third to sixth after the regular season were to vie for semifinal qualification.

The KRU Championship and Nationwide were also to commence on 25.
