Defending champions Costa Blanca Barbarians began their title defence in style, cruising to a commanding 29-0 victory over Mwamba Select as the 2025 Safari 7s kicked off at Nyayo National Stadium on Friday.
The Spaniards, who lifted the title in 2024, showed their class early on, setting the tone for what promises to be an action-packed weekend in the women’s category.
Elsewhere, Shogun Ladies proved too strong for Kenya Cubs, securing a comfortable 32-5 win, while Uganda edged Belgium 12-10 in a closely contested match.
In the day’s final women’s fixture, the Kenya Lionesses thrilled the home crowd with a dominant 34-7 win over Tunisia.

Janet Okello opened the scoring, darting past the Tunisian defence for an early try.
Edith Nariaka followed up with a powerful run to extend the lead, before Okello added her second to make it 15-0 at halftime.
After the break, Naomi Amuguni stretched the lead further, with Sinaida Mokaya converting for 22-0.
Edith Nariaka and Faith Livoi sealed the win with two more tries, while Tunisia managed a late consolation through Zahra Haddaji.
The women’s matches continue on Saturday, October 11, 2025, with the second and third round of pool fixtures on the cards.
