The 2026 National 7s Circuit will introduce a fresh look to the Division Two competition, with Kenya Rugby Union implementing a revamped format aimed at creating a more streamlined and competitive tournament.
The new season gets underway with the Prinsloo 7s on July 25-26 at Nakuru Athletics Club, and teams will be competing under a structure that differs significantly from previous editions.
Here are the key Division Two changes you need to know:
Division Two reduced to 16 teams
One of the biggest changes is the reduction in the number of participating teams. Unlike previous seasons, where Division Two featured 20 teams, the 2026 circuit will now have 16 teams.
The move aligns the competition with the Division One format and is expected to make the tournament more competitive.
Four pools replace the previous five-pool format
The traditional five-pool structure that had 20 teams has been scrapped.
Instead, the 16 teams will be drawn into four pools of four, just like Division One. Each team will play three pool matches on the opening day.
Knockout stage mirrors Division One
After the pool matches, the top two teams from each pool will qualify for the Cup quarter-finals.

The winners will advance to the semi-finals before battling for the tournament title, while the remaining teams will compete in placement matches to determine the final standings.
New qualification pathway
The composition of the 16-team Division Two competition has also changed.
The teams will comprise:
- Four teams relegated from Division One after the previous circuit leg.
- Four highest-ranked Division Two teams from the previous leg, excluding the two promoted sides.
- Eight regional teams selected from the host region of each tournament.
This means the Division Two lineup will change from one circuit leg to another depending on promotion, relegation and the host region.
Promotion and relegation remain key
Promotion and relegation continue to play a crucial role in the circuit.
The top-performing Division Two teams will earn promotion to Division One for the following leg, while the bottom Division One teams will drop into Division Two, ensuring there is plenty to play for throughout the season.
