The Scrummage Katch 7s tournament kicked off with a thrilling start at Kakamega School, with Vihiga School, Kakamega School, Mukumu Boys, and Koyonzo Hybrid emerging victorious in all their matches.
The event, organized in partnership with Scrummage Africa and Kakamega Schools, received support from Deflam from Biopharma, Okutech Solutions, AS Sports Africa Wear, among others.
Despite the withdrawal of Otieno Oyoo, Kisii, and Mulwanda due to unavoidable circumstances, 13 teams participated in boys category.
Scrummage Africa 7s pool of death
In what was dubbed the “pool of death,” Vihiga School dominated, winning all their opening two games. The highlight match saw them stage an impressive comeback against East Africa Champions, Vihiga, avenging last year’s defeats to Koyonzo in various competitions.
Vihiga secured a narrow 15-14 victory. Earlier, Koyonzo had defeated St. Anthony 12-5, while Vihiga had a convincing 20-0 win over Kimobo.
In Pool A, Kakamega School secured a spot in the quarterfinals as winners after defeating Chavakali 19-12, and then Kimobo 2 with a score of 19-5.

Koyonzo Hybrid also advanced to the quarterfinals, accumulating six points in their pool. Their 12-0 victory over Vihiga Vipers was crucial in securing their spot in the knockout stage.
Mukumu also progressed to the quarters, defeating Kakamega School’s Dr. Mambili Barbarians in their opener and later overcoming St. Anthony Transboks 12-5.
However, the match between Dr. Mambili Barbarians and St. Anthony Transboks was cut short due to heavy rainfall and lightning.
The final two matches to determine the standings in the tough Pool A will take place on Sunday morning.
