Kenya Lionesses had to save their best for last when they overcame a resilient Cameroon 34-17 in their last match of Rugby Africa Women’s Cup 2024 at Stade Makis, Antananarivo.

Anne Ochieng gave Lionesses an early 3-0 lead after he booted a penalty just infront of the uprights. The Lionesses would then put Cameroon under immense pressure, the resultant pressure saw Cameroon loose their hooker to the bin.

Kenya Lionesses capitalised on the numerical advantage to land a try under the posts after loose-head prop Rose Otieno peeled away from a maul to dot down Kenya’s first try. Diana Omosso converted Otieno’s try to give Kenya Lionesses a 10-0 lead.

Moments later, wing Terry Ayesa outpaced her markers to score Kenya’s second try in the corner. Conversion attempt was unsuccessful. Cameroon would then cut the deficit after they got a converted try to take the scores to 15-7.

Hellen Achieng scored Kenya’s third try after putting up a brilliant solo effort to score under the posts. Diana Omosso converted Hellen’s try to take the scores to 22-7.

In the second half, Kenya Lionesses went over three times to grab their first win of the year. Diana Awino scored first after she was put in space by Hellen Achieng. Rose Otieno would then grab her brace moments later after she burged over to score. Omosso converted Otieno’s try to take the scores to 34-7.

Cameroon would then respond with a penalty goal and a converted try by Teclaire Endalle to bring the scores to 34-17. In the final stages, Faith Livoi went over for Lionesses, a try Anne Ochieng failed to convert, to win the game 39-17.
