Menengai Oilers head coach Gibson Weru has attained World Rugby level III certification.

The Kenya Rugby Union announced Gibu’s milestone through their social media channels on Friday.

“Congratulations to Menengai Oilers Head Coach Gibson Weru on attaining his World Rugby Level 3 accreditation,” KRU revealed.

Gibu, a former player for Nakuru RFC, achieved significant success locally, clinching the Kenya Cup title and Enterprise Cup during his playing career. He also coached the team to secure the inaugural National 7s Circuit title.

Transitioning into coaching after retiring from playing, Gibu assumed a coaching role at Menengai Oilers in Nakuru. Under his guidance, the team ascended from the Nationwide league to the prestigious Kenya Cup.

In the Kenya Cup, Gibu has consistently steered Menengai Oilers to top-four finishes and secured a second-place position in the 2021/22 season.

In the shorter format of the game, he guided Menengai Oilers to victory in the 2022 National 7s Circuit. He also claimed his first major coaching trophy in 2019 when Menengai Oilers triumphed in the Great Rift 10s tournament.
