Kenya 7s have missed out on a place in the 2026/27 SVNS league phase following the conclusion of the SVNS World Championship in Bordeaux.
Shujaa were banking on Fiji defeating the USA in their final pool match at the Bordeaux Sevens, the last leg of the World Championship.
Kenya 7s at the brink
Fiji appeared to be on course for victory after racing to a 14-0 lead, but the Americans staged a remarkable comeback to win 17-14, scoring the decisive try after the hooter.
The result saw the USA leapfrog Kenya in the standings by a single point, condemning Shujaa to a ninth-place finish with 16 points.

By securing a top-eight finish, the USA gain their place in the SVNS league phase and will feature in the opening six tournaments of the 2026/27 season, including Dubai, Cape Town, Perth, Vancouver, New York and Singapore, should the current schedule remain unchanged.
Following those six rounds, the Americans will advance to the SVNS World Championship as they look to build on their top-eight finish.
What next for Kenya 7s
For Kevin Wambua’s side, the wait for a return to the top tier continues.
Shujaa will once again compete in SVNS 2 as they continue their quest for promotion, having been relegated from the World Series in May 2023.
