Daystar Falcons finally registered their first-ever Kenya Cup victory after powering past Kisumu RFC 41-28 in an entertaining match played at Athi River on Saturday evening.
The students came into the encounter under pressure after three straight defeats in the Kenya Cup, having suffered heavy losses to Impala RFC and Kabras Sugar RFC, with last weekend’s 50-17 defeat to Impala further raising questions about their readiness for top-flight rugby.
Despite missing key players Patrick Odongo and Clinton Amukwachi, who are currently in South Africa on a high-performance programme, Daystar produced their most complete performance of the season. They went into the break with a narrow 17-14 lead before shifting gears in the second half, running in 24 unanswered points to pull away from their visitors.

The emphatic win ensured Kisumu RFC remained rooted at the bottom of the standings, while Daystar celebrated a historic milestone with their maiden Kenya Cup success.
In Nairobi, KU Blak Blad strengthened their grip on fourth place on the log after edging Nondescripts 23-18. Blad trailed 18-3 at halftime but delivered a remarkable second-half turnaround, scoring 20 unanswered points to open a five-point gap over their closest challengers.
