Mwamba RFC registered a hard-fought 22–17 victory over USIU Martials in a tightly contested Championship clash, showcasing their resilience to hold off a late USIU fightback.
Kulabu wasted no time asserting themselves, opening the scoring just two minutes into the match when Douglas Opani crossed over for an early try. USIU responded in the seventh minute through a Faustine Waswa penalty to reduce the deficit.
Mwamba RFC lead at the break
The visitors extended their advantage in the 16th minute as Dennis Ndayala touched down, before Bruce Shiemi added another try six minutes later, with Ndayala converting to stretch Mwamba’s lead. USIU struck back through Willard Oloo, who scored a crucial try before the break, leaving Mwamba with a 17–8 advantage at halftime.
USIU came out with renewed intent in the second half and mounted pressure through the boot of Waswa, who slotted two penalties as the Martials clawed their way back into contention. A third successful penalty brought USIU within striking distance, setting up a tense final quarter.
However, Mwamba sealed the contest when George Omola crashed over for a decisive try, extinguishing USIU’s hopes and securing a 22–17 win for the visitors.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Mombasa RFC edged South Coast Pirates 13–8 in a fiery Coastal derby, handing head coach Tony Khadambi his first loss of the season. The narrow win underlined Mombasa’s grit in a fiercely contested encounter.
Catholic Monks continued their impressive run, maintaining a perfect start to the campaign after edging Mean Machine 29–22 in a thrilling contest. Homeboyz RFC also enjoyed a successful outing, seeing off Zetech Oaks 22–12, while JKUAT Cougars claimed a 29–22 victory over NYS Spades.
In another dramatic fixture, Western Bulls held their nerve to pip Kisii RFC 29–28 in a one-point thriller, rounding off an action-packed Championship weekend.
