Kisumu RFC strengthen squad with Kenya Cup winning-scrum half from Kabras and centre Oilers

Kisumu RFC have strengthened their squad with the capture of Kenya Cup–winning scrum-half Dan Angwech from champions Kabras RFC and centre Antony Roshan Owino.

Angwech returns to competitive rugby after missing the entire 2024/25 season due to injury. The scrum-half underwent an anterior talofibular ligament reconstruction in January after picking up the injury during the 2024 Christie 7s, the opening leg of that year’s National 7s Circuit.

He made his comeback earlier this season, featuring in the Eric Shirley Shield clash against MMUST, and now heads back to his hometown for a new chapter with Kisumu RFC.

Kisumu RFC chairman Gabriel Ouma confirmed the two signings during the ongoing transfer window, noting the club’s intent to add experience and depth to the backline.

“We’ve signed Dan Angwech from Kabras and Antony Roshan from Oilers to bolster our backline,” said Ouma.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

Angwech made his Kenya Cup debut for Kabras RFC in 2017 against Mwamba shortly after completing his high school education at St Peter’s Mumias. During his time with the Sugarmen, he enjoyed multiple Kenya Cup title wins and also lifted the Mwamba Cup and the Enterprise Cup.

Born in Kisumu, Angwech’s rugby journey began at a young age after being introduced to the sport by his cousins, who were key players at Kisumu RFC. His return is expected to bring leadership and experience to the side.

Owino, who joins from Menengai Oilers, is an Eric Shirley Shield winner and operates in the midfield as a centre. His arrival adds further quality and competition to Kisumu RFC’s backline as the club continues to build ahead of the new season.
