The Rugby Super Series began on Saturday with two exciting matches at RFUEA Grounds.

In the opening match, the Cheetahs defeated the Buffaloes 18-5. Felix Okoth, a back-row forward from Nakuru RFC, played a pivotal role in the Cheetahs’ win, earning him the Man of the Match title and a MoTM shield for his outstanding performance.

His contributions in both defence and attack were instrumental in the Cheetahs’ success.

In the second match, the Lions secured a decisive 29-7 victory over the Rhinos. Bob Muhati, representing the Lions, was named Man of the Match for his exceptional play in their bonus point win. He also got a MoTM shield.

The Lions, led by coach Oliver Mang’eni, demonstrated their depth with players from Kenya Cup heavyweights like KCB, Blak Blad, Mwamba, and others from JKUAT and South Coast Pirates.

With these results, the Lions hold the top spot in the standings after a commanding win. The Cheetahs sit in second place, having dominated their match against the Buffaloes. The Rhinos and Buffaloes occupy the third and fourth positions, respectively.

This year’s Rugby Super Series follows a round-robin format, with matches taking place across Nairobi, Nakuru, and Kakamega over three match days. The top two teams from the round-robin stage will compete for the championship title in a high-stakes final match.

Additionally, the 2024 series introduces a women’s competition, marking a significant step for women’s rugby in the region. The women’s division features two teams, the Eagles and Jaguars, competing over two match days.
