Michael Lukusi, the top try scorer of the 2024 KSSSA National 15s tournament, has been chosen among 55 players from the Western Region to join the Kenya U18 rugby extended squad.

Lukusi, previously victorious with Butula in the 2023 National 15s and finishing as runner-up in 2024, is set to join Paul Odera’s side alongside his ten teammates, including captain Adrian Kwesa, Reuben Amani, Jabir Andawa, Victor Andoke, Joseph Odhiambo, John Onyango, Dennis Ukwesi, Daniel Wafula, Derrick Ouma, and Joseph Wakhisi.

In April, the Kenya Rugby Union initiated a collaboration with public and international schools to nurture young talent. Spearheaded by the Development Department under the leadership of Development Coordinator Ronnald Okoth and coach Odera, the initiative aims to elevate Kenya’s rugby prowess from grassroots to international levels.

The project, operating under the 15s High-Performance Program, meticulously selects 60 promising players from each region to integrate into the U18 program. This selection process, drawing talent from ongoing 15s school games, is a concerted effort to identify and groom the next generation of rugby stars.
