South Coast Pirates are the 2023/24 KRU Championship Champions

The South Coast Pirates have crowned their Kenya Cup Promotion with a narrow 16-14 win over Impala in a tightly contested KRU Championship final at the Seacrest grounds Diani.

The guests Impala RFC drew the first blood thanks to their well converted penalty to change the scores 03-00 before Kelly Akengo leveled the scores 03-03.

The tight first half saw the two teams heading to the break with a 03-03 score.

In the second half, Impala, determined to fight for the championship glory title, stretched their lead 06-03 after a well taken penalty.

The South Coast Pirates, with a record of not losing at their home soil this season, leveled the score with Kelly Akengo’s well converted penalty to change the tally 06-06.

In the progression of the tight and competitive encounter, Impala managed a gap through the hosts’ defense to score the first try of the match which was unsuccessfully converted as the scores changed 11-06.

The hosts, determined to close in the gap, kept pressure on the guests who were penalized and taking advantage of the penalty, Kelly Akengo reduced the gap as the board changed 09-11.

The guests, Impala RFC, determined to humble the hosts on their own soil, stretched their lead 14-09 taking advantage of a penalty which was well converted.

In the dying minutes of the game, Impala were confident of the win before Sospeter Rofino, saw a gap in the Impala’s defense and went for a try which was successfully converted to seal their victory 16-14  after the final whistle.
