HSBC SVNS 2024 opening round saw South Africa retain the Dubai 7s title after a 12-7 win over Argentina in an encounter played at the Sevens Stadium to claim their fifth straight title.

By kicking off their HSBC SVNS 2024 campaign in emphatic style, the Blitzboks have 20 points on the log and lead the standings early on. Argentina who managed a second-place finish have 18 points on the log.

New Zealand have 16 points after defeating Fiji 17-12 in a tense bronze encounter. Fiji head to the Cape Town 7s with 14 points.

Ireland claimed 12 points after a 28-7 win over Samoa in the fifth-place final. Finishing sixth earned Samoa 10 points from Dubai.

Australia have eight points followed by the USA with six points. France have four points, Great Britain have three, Spain have 2 points and Canada have a point.

Under the new model, HSBC SVNS 2024 features seven regular-season events plus a Grand Final. The top eight placed teams based on cumulative series points after the seventh round in Singapore will secure their opportunity to compete in the new ‘winner takes all’ Grand Final in Madrid, where the women’s and men’s HSBC SVNS 2024 champions will be crowned.

Madrid will also play host to the high stakes relegation play-off competition where teams ranked ninth to 12th will join the top four teams from the World Rugby Sevens Challenger, with the top four placed teams securing their place on HSBC SVNS 2025.
