Rongo, Shamberere earn Kenya Cup promotion

Rongo University Women’s Rugby Team are the winners of KRU Women’s Kenya Cup 15s Qualifiers held in Nakuru.

Rongo and Shamberere have qualified for Women’s Kenya Cup after finishing 1st and 2nd respectively in a round robin format event played on Friday and Saturday in Nakuru.

Rongo which also doubles as Likoni women after the two parties merged secured promotion registering a 100% win record.

Rongo opened their campaign with a hard fought 10-05 win over Shamberere before running riot 25-00 over NYS spades in yesterday’s matches, Rongo sealed their event’s business with a 27-03 win against Kenyatta University on Saturday evening to finish top.

The two sides now join Mwamba, Impala rfc,Nakuru rfc, Western Spears,Maseno and Suburbs to form an eight team KRU Women’s Kenya Cup Women’s league.

A youthful Rongo University side comprises of players from Likoni, St Joseph Kitale and Anjego School in Migori county.
