Western Wanderers: Libondo Shimenga reveals squad for Futures Cup

The Western Wanderers under-15 rugby squad has been officially confirmed ahead of the highly anticipated Futures Cup tournament, scheduled to take place from July 14 to 16 at St Christopher’s International School in Nairobi.

The squad, led by head coach Libondo from Butula High School, comprises talented players from various schools in the Western region of Kenya.

The Western Wanderers squad has strong representation from Butula High School, St. Peter’s Mumias, Kakamega School, Bungoma High, and other notable institutions.

Five players from Butula High School have made the cut, with Emmanuel Moses and Ashly Obiayo in flanker and scrum half positions, respectively.John Ongono, Austin Otieno, and Nicodemus Anuna from Butula High School have made the cut.

St. Peter’s Mumias has also contributed significantly to the Western Wanderers team, with Austin Otieno, Reagan Williams, Labarn Ambayi, and Alvin Indaki.

Other players from notable schools include Jakes Philimon from Fields of Life, Raphael Mirimo from Bungoma High, Daniel Wafula from Kabras, and Titus Wekesa from Kakamega School.

The Futures Cup tournament will feature eight regional teams, including Central, Coastal, Rift Valley, two Nairobi sides, two Western sides, and a team from Kampala. T

his broad representation aims to expand the player pool and provide talented individuals with the opportunity to represent their communities and regions on a larger stage.

The Futures Cup serves as a crucial platform for young rugby talents to gain exposure, develop their skills, and potentially catch the attention of talent scouts and selectors.
