Kenya 7s collected the fourth consecutive loss in the Toulouse 7s losing 17-10 to Samoa in the ninth place quarters played on Saturday in France.
Shujaa had failed to qualify for the quarters for the 10th time this season and already knew they were headed for the relegation playoffs next weekend.
The team however needed some redemption after a disappointing run in the pool stage.
They started off impressively with Denis Abukuse grabbing two successive tries. His first was in the first minute while his second try came three minutes later.
Kenya would take a 10-0 lead to the break. In the second half, Vaa Apelu Maliko grabbed a try that was converted for a 10-7 scoreline.
Motu Opetai and Neueli Leitufia ensured that Samoa came from behind to win the match.
Kenya will now shift focus on the 13th place match against the loser of the match between Spain-USA.
