Monate Akuei among Major Rugby League stars of the week

Former Nakuru RFC forward Monate Akuei has been named in the Major Rugby League team of the week, showcasing his impressive skills on the field.

Akuei, who plays as an openside flanker for the Rugby New York Ironworkers, made 11 tackles, had 25 ruck arrivals and ran a total of 57 meters in the match.

Monate Akuei already impactful

The South Sudanese-born Kenyan International joined the 2022 MLR champions on 13 April from New York Old Blue and his impact is already being felt.

The team of the week also includes Chance Wenglewski from Rugby New York Ironworkers, Sama Malolo from San Diego Legion, and John-Roy Jenkinson from Rugby ATL, among others. The players were selected based on their outstanding performance in the weekend matches.

Michael Smith from San Diego Legion scored one try, made 97 meters run, and tackled 10 times, while Tesimoni Tongauiha from NOLA Gold had 19 ball carries, ran 151 meters, and had 16 ruck arrivals.

Jason Emery from Rugby New York Ironworkers scored 24 points and gained 47 meters, while Andrew Coe, also from Rugby New York Ironworkers, scored two tries, had 140 meters run, and made eight ball carries. Jack Shaw from Rugby ATL scored one try, ran 106 meters, and made three tackles.

Calvin Whiting from Utah Warriors ran 76 meters, tackled 14 times, and had 13 ruck arrivals, while William Talataina-Mu from Old Glory DC scored one try, had 85 meters run, and made five ruck arrivals. Caleb Makene from Utah Warriors also scored one try, had 147 meters run, and made five tackles.

The Major Rugby League team of the week is a recognition of the best-performing players in each position. Akuei’s inclusion in the team is a testament to his exceptional skills and talent in the sport.
