Dennis Abukuse’s try ranked among the best in Dubai 7s

Kenya 7s newbie Dennis Abukuse has his debut try in the World 7s Series ranked among the best seven tries of the Dubai 7s.

Over the weekend, the former Bungoma High School player scored his maiden try against South Africa as Kenya 7s lost 27-12 in the group stage. Abukuse got the ball following a kickoff and eluded his markers before speeding on to score the game’s final try.

10 points in eight matches

The Menengai Oilers player scored his second try in Kenya’s 21-17 ninth-place semi-final loss to Fiji, bringing his record to two tries in eight matches. In Shujaa’s eight matches this season, he has a total of ten points.

The 2022 National 7s Circuit champion made his debut in Hong Kong alongside Strathmore Leos George Ooro, and they were both retained for the competitions in Dubai and Cape Town.

Other notable tries include Aaron O’Sullivan’s try against Uganda, Perry Baker’s try against Australia, Marcus Tupuola’s try against Canada, Akuila Rokolisoa’s try against France, Mark Roche’s pick and go try against the United States, and Shilton Van Wyk’s try against Ireland in the Cup final.

The World Series heads to Cape Town, on 9-11 December.

The men’s pool draw for Cape Town sees hosts South Africa in Pool A together with France, Fiji and Canada. Pool B includes Ireland, Samoa, Uruguay and Japan. New Zealand are in Pool C alongside Argentina, Kenya and Spain while the USA, Australia, Great Britain and Uganda are in Pool D.

The women’s pools in Cape Town have all-conquering Australia drawn with Ireland, Spain and South Africa in Pool A. New Zealand are in Pool B together with Fiji, Great Britain and Brazil. Pool C includes the USA, France, Canada and Japan.
