Vihiga win Dala 7s Division II

Vihiga Granites are the 2022 Dala 7s Division II Champions after a 12-7 win over Makueni in the final played at Jomo Kenyatta stadium in Kisumu.

Granites were featuring in their second tournament this season  with their first appearance coming in Mombasa during the Driftwood 7s two weeks ago.

They made a short trip to Mamboleo eyeing maximum points after a confidence boosting performance Mombasa where they collected 17 out of the possible 22.

Sebastian Ochieng charges started off strong and Edwin Opele scored their opening try of the match. Western Region Prescott Cup top scorer Mike Lukusi who had helped Vihiga High School win the Western Region on Wednesday added the extras for a 7-0 lead.

The second try came from Nickson Shivei for Vihiga to lead 12-0 at halftime. The final half had Makueni score a try but Vihiga held on to earn promotion to the top tier.

To reach the final, Vihiga Granites won 21-17 over Kabarak while Makueni defeated Egerton 17-10.

On day one they beat Borderrucks, Western Bulls and Siaya to top their pool.

Commenting on their victory, Ochieng said playing in the top division was on top of their minds hence the performance.

“They (boys) are very young and wanted to prove a point to play division one and beyond,” he said.

Vihiga will play in the top Division for the first time since 2019.
