Strathmore Leos, Nondies and Menengai Oilers qualified for the Driftwood 7s quarters after winning their final pool stage matches on Saturday afternoon at Mombasa Sports Club.
KCB Rugby, Kabras RFC, Mwamba and Homeboyz on their part kept their pristine record and went undefeated on day one.
Strathmore Leos, who had previously fallen to Homeboyz, bounced back with a bang, defeating Impala Saracens 50-0 to go to the quarterfinals as Pool A runners-up. After day one matches, Loius Kisia’s charges have seven points.
Homeboyz won Pool A with nine points after going undefeated in the pool. The Deejayz won the final match 24-7 over the hosts Mombasa.
Mombasa finish day one with no wins following three straight defeats in their home tournament.
Pool B
In the Pool B decider, KCB and Kabras tied 12-12. Both teams remain undefeated in the tournament after the draw and are equal on eight points. KCB, on the other hand, will finish first in the pool due to a better point differential than the Sugarmen.
Daystar Falcons beat Jumia Pay Pirates 26-10 to earn their first victory. Patrick Odongo scored twice in the victory. David Williams and Floyd Wabwire each scored a try in the game.
Pool C
Blak Blad ended their eight-match losing record in the group stage by pipping Nakuru RFC 10-7. Wanyore will miss the playoffs for the second time in a row.
Menengai Oilers won Pool C after amassing eight points following a win 12-5 win over Kenya Harlequins. The win saw the Nakuru-based side maintain an impressive record over Quins. Quins had already qualified for the final eight and would compete in the knockout stage as Pool C runners-up.
Pool D
Nondies confirmed their place in the quarters after a win over 21-5win over Zetech Oaks. They join Mwamba who topped the pool following a 7-0 over Western Bulls. Its Nondies maiden quarterfinal appearance this season.
