Kenya 7s rugby team suffered a 26-12 defeat against Great Britain, marking their second loss in the Vancouver 7s matches played on Saturday at the BC Place.

Shujaa had hoped to redeem themselves after their earlier 31-12 loss, but Great Britain, who had previously beaten Uruguay 45-5, were determined to secure a spot in the quarter-finals with a win.

Kenya’s defense held strong in the opening minutes, but in the third minute, Tom Emery of Great Britain managed to break through and score despite Kevin Wekesa’s pressure. The try was converted, giving Great Britain a 7-0 lead.

Robbie Fergusson then scored another try for Great Britain, which was also converted, increasing their lead to 14-0. However, Wekesa managed to score a try for Kenya just before halftime, reducing the deficit to 14-5.

After the break, Kenya lost possession from a kick off, allowing Great Britain to regain the ball. Ross McCann’s offload resulted in another try by Emery at the right corner, extending Great Britain’s lead to 19-5.

Ethan Waddleton then scored another try for Great Britain, which was converted, making the score 26-5. Kenya fought back and scored their second try in the 13th minute after Edmund Anya sold a dummy and raced clear to score under the posts.

Despite having possession in the dying seconds, Shujaa failed to capitalize, and the match ended with a 26-12 victory for Great Britain.

Shujaa will play their final group stage match against Uruguay at 11:20 PM on Saturday.

Meanwhile Uruguay beat Fiji 17-14 in the second match to blow the pool wide open ahead of the final round of the group stage.

Tries by Baltazar Amaya and Felipe Arcos Perez ensured a 12-7 lead to the break for Uruguay cancelling Pilipo Bukayaro’s second minute try.

In the second half, Tomas Etcheverry stretch the lead for Uruguay with an 11th minute try. Josese Batirerega try for Fiji a minute later was reduced to a consolation.

As it stands, Great Britain lead the Pool with six points, Fiji and Uruguay have four points each and Kenya are bottom with two points
