Kitondo School and St Teresa Kithimu emerge as Eastern Region Schools Rugby 7s champions

Kitondo School and St Teresa Kithimu emerged as the Eastern Region Schools Rugby 7s champions after impressive campaigns that culminated in victories in the boys’ and girls’ finals respectively.

In the boys’ final, Kitondo edged All Saints Embu 7-5 in a tightly contested encounter to lift the regional title.

The victory capped off a dominant knockout run for Kitondo, who had earlier eliminated Meru School 10-0 in the quarterfinals before overcoming Kitui School 19-5 in the semifinals.

All Saints Embu reached the final after beginning their campaign with a commanding 36-0 win over Makueni in the quarterfinals. They then defeated Marsabit Mixed 24-0 in the semifinals but fell just short in the championship match.

Marsabit Mixed claimed third place after defeating Kitui School 29-7 in the playoff.

In the girls’ competition, St Teresa Kithimu produced a clinical display in the final to defeat Muvuti 45-12 and secure the Eastern Region crown.

St Teresa had booked their place in the final after edging Kangaru Girls 5-0 in a tense semifinal, having earlier defeated Mulala 10-0 in the quarterfinals.

Muvuti enjoyed a strong run to the final, beating Nkuene 14-5 in the quarterfinals before overcoming Mwaani Girls 12-0 in the last four. Despite the defeat in the final, they finished as runners-up after an impressive tournament.

Kangaru Girls secured the bronze medal by defeating Mwaani Girls 33-19 in the third-place playoff.

All the finalists head to the Nationals.
