Kenya Simbas’ 21-year-old lock, Andycole Omolo, was named Man of the Match following his commanding performance in Kenya’s 32-24 victory over Uganda in the Rugby Africa Cup 2025 quarterfinal on Tuesday evening at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
The towering KCB RFC forward, who recently graduated from the national U20 side (Chipu), continues to shine on the big stage. Omolo has now earned three caps for the senior team, all against Uganda.
In the match against Uganda, Omolo’s physicality, lineout control, and defensive prowess stood out. His relentless work rate disrupted Uganda’s play and set the tone in contact situations.
“First, I have to thank God for the pleasure of being here. It has been a great honor not just for me, but for the entire team. We played like a unit, thanks to my brothers. This victory means a lot to me,” he said after the game.

Omolo made his first senior appearance in the back row after a strong 2024 season with KCB Rugby and Chipu. His debut with the Simbas came during the 2024 Elgon Cup against Uganda, where Kenya triumphed 48-30 on aggregate (27-25 in the first leg and 21-5 in the second). He marked that occasion with a memorable try in the second match.

His rugby journey has been characterized by steady progression. After featuring for Chipu in 2023, he made his senior club debut for KCB RFC, broke into the Elgon Cup squad, and is now a core figure in Kenya’s bid to qualify for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
Kenya will face Zimbabwe in the semifinals on Sunday, July 13.
