Vihiga High School are the Scrummage Katch 7s winners after defeating Mukumu 26-5 in the final played at Kakamega School.
The East African 7s and National finalists staged a comeback to win the tournament organized by Scrummage Africa in partnership with Kakamega School.

The tournament also received support from AS Sports Africa, a leading sport wear and sport equipment company, and Deflam spray/cream from Biopharma, which is well-created to deal with sport-related injuries. Other supporters included Okutech Solutions.

It was Mukumu who settled first in the match, landing a try and later pinning Vihiga in their own half for the better part of the first half.
The tide turned with Vihiga grabbing a late first try for a 7-5 lead at halftime. In the second half, Vihiga were the better team, landing a converted try before adding two more tries for the win.
The competition, which exhibited a high level of play, saw both Vihiga and Mukumu rely on the sudden death rule to reach the final.
The biggest upset of the competition was when National and East African Champions Koyonzo Stormers were knocked out by Mukumu.
The match, which was highly competitive, ended at 19-19 after Mukumu scored a late try and banked on a chase and kick to eliminate the East African Champion.

Vihiga had earlier scored a try in sudden death to eliminate the host Kakamega, who had forced a 7-7 draw in regular time with a late try.
In the quarters, Vihiga defeated Koelel 33-0 while Kakamega beat their second side Dr Mambili Barbarians.
Koyonzo Stormers found themselves drawn against Koyonzo Hybrid. The match was brutal and highly competitive, but it was the Stormers who proceeded.
Mukumu eliminated Chavakali in the quarterfinal stage.
Speaking after the tournament, Tournament Director Brians Mwenje hailed the sides for turning out and showing a quality level of rugby.
“I really appreciate all the schools for making their way to Kakamega School for this tournament. Everyone will admit that we watched a quality level of rugby. Teams seem to be really prepared despite this being the first weekend after schools opened for the second term,” Mwenje stated.

On his part, Scrummage founder Collins Amanga echoed Mwenje’s sentiments concerning the competitiveness of the tournament.

“The boys admitted that they had fun, learnt a lot, and believe they will be ready for the upcoming school games. We had some selectors on the ground also, so we ticked most of the boxes when it comes to our targets. Finally, I am confident most of these teams are going to win in their respective regions. And I can foresee the National and East African Champion being among the teams that featured here in both categories,” he concluded.
