Kenya Morans secured their first victory in the All-African Games by defeating Benin with a resounding 55-0 scoreline in their third match at the Ghana University Stadium.
After suffering consecutive defeats to Burkina Faso and Zimbabwe Cheetahs, Kenya Morans were determined to bounce back with a win against Benin.
Benin faced an early setback as they received a yellow card, giving Kenya an advantage. Cornelius Mokoro capitalized on this opportunity, scoring a try after a scrum pick and accelerating to earn a converted try, securing an early 7-0 lead for Kenya.
Mokoro extended the lead with another try, breaking through the center to score under the posts, bringing the score to 14-0 in Kenya’s favor.
Brian Mutua added to Kenya’s lead by scoring a try straight from the kickoff, pushing Kenya ahead 19-0. The momentum continued for Kenya as Louis Kisia’s charges managed another try at the corner, followed by George Ooro’s try after skillfully fending off defenders, giving Kenya a comfortable lead going into halftime.

In the second half, Kenya continued their dominant performance, scoring another try at the right corner, extending their lead to 36-0.
Mokoro once again showcased his skills by exploiting a gap on the blind side of the scrum, further widening Kenya’s lead to 41-0.
Two more tries followed, allowing Kenya to secure a convincing victory with a final score of 55-0.
On Thursday they will tackle Tunisia, Ghana and will conclude against Uganda.
The tournament has attracted rugby Men & women teams across Africa participate for the first time in the history of the games.
The Men’s teams include Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Tunusia, Burkina-Faso and Benin while the Women’s teams will include Uganda, Tunisia, Madagascar, Ghana and Nigeria.
The rugby games are taking place between March 19-21 2024 at the newly constructed rugby stadium at the university of Ghana, Legon, Accra.
