Black Pirates successfully defended their Uganda Rugby Premiership title after edging Buffaloes 30-29 in a pulsating final at Kings Park Arena on Saturday.
The victory secured Pirates’ fourth league crown and their second consecutive championship following last season’s triumph, cementing their place among Uganda rugby’s elite.
They now join Heathens and Kobs as the only clubs to have successfully retained the Premiership title.
Pirates looked firmly in control at halftime, taking a commanding 25-13 lead through two tries from Nathan Bwambale, while Alex Aturinda and Frank Kidega also crossed the whitewash. William Nkore added the extras with conversions and a penalty to give the defending champions a comfortable cushion.
Buffaloes, however, mounted a spirited second-half comeback. Their game driver Yasin Waiswa kept his side in the contest with a series of penalties before late tries brought them within touching distance of an unlikely victory.

Despite the late pressure, Black Pirates held their nerve to seal a dramatic one-point victory and complete back-to-back championship-winning campaigns.
The title capped off another outstanding season in which they recorded 13 wins from 15 matches and boasted the league’s best defensive record.
For Buffaloes, the defeat marked a heartbreaking end to a memorable campaign.
Playing in their first Uganda Rugby Premiership final in 13 years, they came agonisingly close to ending their title drought, but the wait for championship glory continues.
