The Kisii County Schools Rugby 15s Championships have reached the semi-final stage after two days of intense competition at Kisii School, with both the boys’ and girls’ categories producing exciting matchups as teams battled through the pool stages and quarterfinals to keep their title hopes alive.
The boys’ semi-finals will see hosts East African Champions Kisii School face Bong’ota Boys, while Cardinal Otunga await the winner of the final quarterfinal between Gesero and Tendere, which is scheduled to be played in the morning. The winners of these fixtures will advance to the county final.
In the girls’ category, Borangi Girls SDA will take on Nyabisase Girls, while Nyagichenche Girls will face Mesabakwa Girls in the second semi-final. The four teams progressed after strong performances in the earlier rounds and will now battle for a place in the championship match.
Kisii County Schools Rugby 15s Championships
The quarterfinal stage saw some dominant performances. Kisii School delivered the biggest result of the round, thrashing Sameta 62–0 to comfortably secure their place in the semi-finals. Bong’ota Boys edged out Kerongorori 6–3 in a tightly contested match to book a clash with the hosts.
Cardinal Otunga also advanced in style after beating Borangi Boys SDA 28–0, demonstrating their attacking strength and defensive discipline. The final quarterfinal between Gesero and Tendere will determine the last semi-finalist and Cardinal Otunga’s opponent in the next round.
The tournament began with pool matches played over the first two days at Kisii School. On day one, the hosts opened strongly with a 13–5 victory over Cardinal Otunga, while Kerongorori beat Hema Senior 22–0. Borangi Boys also impressed with a 14–0 win over Sameta, while Gesero Boys defeated Nyabigena Boys 12–0.

Other results saw Cardinal Otunga recover to defeat Rioma Boys 17–0, Borangi Boys beat Nyanchwa Boys 10–0, and Kerongorori Boys edge Tendere Boys 8–0.
In the girls’ matches, Borangi Girls SDA defeated Mesabakwa Girls 7–0, while Nyabisase Girls produced a strong performance to beat Kereri Girls 22–0. Mesabakwa Girls later secured a 7–0 win over Gesero Girls.
On day two, Kisii School continued their strong run with a 24–0 victory over Rioma, while Tendere beat Hema 16–0 and Sameta defeated Nyanchwa 13–3. Gesero Boys narrowly overcame Bong’ota 6–0 in another closely fought contest.
In the girls’ category, Nyabisase Girls and Nyagichenche Girls played out a 0–0 draw, while Borangi Girls recorded a commanding 24–0 win over Gesero Girls. Nyagichenche Girls later underlined their credentials with a convincing 34–0 victory over Kereri Girls.
