Strathmore Leos secured a commanding 32-12 victory over varsity rivals MMUST RFC on Saturday 28th February 2026 at the MMUST Grounds in Kakamega, strengthening their push in the 2025/26 Kenya Cup playoffs with a fifth win of the season in Match Week 9.
Strathmore leos score first
Leos were first to score inside five minutes, with Elton Amalemba crossing over for the opening try to hand the visitors a 5-0 lead after the conversion sailed wide.
Ten minutes later, they extended the advantage through a Brian Mwendwa penalty kick to make it 8-0 as they continued to dictate play.
Their dominance showed again in the 20th minute when fullback Salim Owino dashed over for a well-worked try, this time converted by Mwendwa for a 15-0 lead.
Mwendwa added another penalty before halftime as Leos went into the break firmly in control at 18-0.
After the restart, MMUST RFC came back with intent.
Ismael Karanja crossed in the 43rd minute to get the hosts on the scoreboard, though the conversion was unsuccessful, narrowing the deficit to 18-5.

Leos responded ten minutes later with a penalty try to stretch the score to 25-5, with Philip Otsyulla of MMUST sent to the sin bin in the process.
Despite being a man down, MMUST stayed competitive, but Leos struck again in the 61st minute through Gabriel Ayimba, with Arnold Muita adding the extras for a commanding 32-5 lead.
Two minutes later, Leos substitute Maxwell Atera was sent to the sin bin as both sides began to make changes.
MMUST coach John Asila introduced Simon Buluku for Felix Adel, while Leos coach Willis Ojal brought on Jaden Oyier for hooker Dennis Tubei and also introduced Almasi Wachira.
MMUST RFC Late consolation try
MMUST managed a late consolation in the 68th minute through Richard Ochieng, with Flavian Otiyo converting to make it 32-12 a scoreline the Leos held onto at full time to secure crucial away points.
The result marks MMUST’s sixth loss in eight matches this season, with the side having managed only two wins so far threatening their survival chances in the top-tier league.
