Kabras Sugar RFC once again proved their superiority over Kenya Harlequin after cruising to a convincing 48–13 victory in a Kenya Cup encounter played at Kakamega Showground on Saturday to remain top of the log.

Coming into the fixture, Harlequin had pushed both KCB Rugby and Menengai Oilers to the limit and were expected to provide a stern test for the Sugarmen. However, Carlos Katywa’s charges extended their dominance over Quins, registering a ninth consecutive win against them in the Kenya Cup.

The visitors struck first through Simon Ochieng just two minutes into the match to take a 3–0 lead. Quins held on until the 10th minute when Kabras responded through Edward Mwaura, who crossed over for the first try of the game, with Eric Cantona adding the conversion for a 7–3 lead.

In the 17th minute, Ochieng was once again on target for Quins to cut the deficit to just one point at 7–6. The scores remained unchanged until the 25th minute when Patrick Sabatia returned to the scoresheet after missing out last weekend, stretching Kabras’ advantage.

Barry Robinson, who was deployed in the midfield, crossed over just before the break to give Kabras some breathing space as they headed into halftime with a 17–6 lead, having scored three tries in the opening half.

Kabras came out firing in the second half, with Robinson once again opening the scoring after just four minutes, although the conversion went wide. Collins Indeche then grabbed his second try of the weekend to extend the lead to 27–6.

Quins were reduced to 14 men following a yellow card, and Kabras immediately capitalized as Cantona crossed over just two minutes later and converted his own try. Sabatia then completed his brace with two successive tries, both converted by Cantona, to stretch the scoreline to 48–6.

The tries saw Sabatia move to the top of the Kenya Cup try-scoring charts with 11 tries this season, overtaking teammate Jeanson Misoga.

Kenya Harlequin pulled one back through speedster Brighton Omondi, who also converted his own try after Kabras were temporarily reduced following the sin-binning of Clinton Litali, but it was only a consolation as Kabras sealed another dominant performance.
