KCB Rugby unleash ex-Kabras RFC duo for Impala date

Former Kabras RFC youngster Joseph Wanjala is set to make his Kenya Cup debut for KCB Rugby Club as the Bankers unveil a squad mixed with trusted names and new additions for the Kenya Cup opener against Impala RFC.

Wanjala starts in the back row and brings the strong work rate and physical presence that stood out during his loan spell at Kisumu RFC last season, where he helped the side steer clear of relegation.

In the front row, Patrick Ouko, Fidel Maina, and Wilhite Mususi will anchor the scrum. Ouko brings experience at loosehead, Maina starts at hooker and Mususi lines up at tighthead.

The second row has Emmanuel Silungi and John Aswani, a new partnership for the Bankers with Aswani, one of the former Strathmore Leos recruits, gets his first run in KCB colours as he re-joins the Kenya Cup stage.

The back row features Wanjala, George Ooro, and captain Felix Ojoo. Ooro, also from Strathmore Leos, starts on the open side and adds mobility around the field. Ojoo leads the team from number eight.

At scrum-half, Samuel Asati starts and next to him, Brian Wahinya starts at fly-half. The midfield pairing sees Kenya Internationals Vincent Onyala at inside centre and Festus Shiasi outside him.

The back three includes Kenya 7s speedster Floyd Wabwire on the left wing, Mike Wekesa on the right, and Davies Nyaundi at fullback.

On the bench, Mike Oduor, Nick Okullo, Nelson Nyandat, and Winstone Macharia provide cover for the forwards, with Oduor set for his first Kenya Cup appearance.

The backs’ replacements include Ian Omoke, Jenkins Kipruto, Stephen Osumba, and Branton Biko, another former Kabras youngster who will also be making his debut for the Bankers when introduced.
