Kenya Cup defending Champions Kabras RFC picked a 33-6 win over Impala as their match was rained on at Kakamega Showground on Saturday evening.

The match had to be halted with almost 19 minutes to play following heavy rains that pounded the second. The regulations state that in a scenario where three-quarters of the match is played, the leading team earns the win.

Kabras RFC opener

The sugarmen opened their account in the first minute of the game after Patrick Lumumba wrestled his way for a five-pointer. Eric Cantona converted his own try for. 7-0 lead.

Impala’s first visit in Kabras 22 saw them register their first points of the game when Patrick Muli resorted to kicking for a penalty to send the score to 7-3.

Kabras second try came after Gabriel Adero picked the ball at the back of the scrum and went to score on the blindside. Cantona made it 2 in 2 with another conversion, splitting the posts despite an angle, for a 14-3.

Impala landed another penalty,  adding another three points, the scores now reading 14-6.

The gap would further stretch after Collins Indeche grounded the ball off a rolling maul. Erick Cantona continued with his fine kicking form, slotting in the conversion for a 21-3 lead.

However, it was Kabras who would have the last say of the half as Hillary Salano dissected Impala’s defence to dot down their bonus-point try. Erick Cantona this time missed the conversion, to send the game to 26-6 at half time.

The second half saw Kabras introduce Jone Kubu who has been sidelined with an injury since November 2023.

Kabras fifth

Kabras thought they had scored their fifth try of the game through Eric Cantona, but the referee canceled the try, spotting an infringement in the build up.

That didn’t last long, as Adero grabbed his second try of the game with a powerful carry against Impala’s defence. Erick Cantona added the extras to send the scores to 33-6.

The game, however, came to an abrupt stop after a heavy downpour, which caused the center referee, after consulting with his assistants, to decide to end the game due to low visibility, the waterlogged pitch, and the safety of the players.
