Kabras RFC: U20 forward Oluoch to start, Kubu and Shem return as Katywa selects youthful squad for Impala clash

Kabras RFC have announced their squad for the Kenya Cup opener against Impala RFC, scheduled for Saturday at 3:00 PM at the Kakamega Showground with this match set to mark the Sugarmen’s 11th season in the top-tier league.

Kenya U20 international Darrel Oluoch will make his Kenya Cup debut, starting in the front row alongside Teddy Akala and Emmanuel Otieno, who will face his former team, Impala. Oluoch, a Barthes Cup winner with Chipu, brings youth and promise to the side.

Clinton Litali and Patrick Lumumba are set to partner in the second row, while former Kenya U20 back-rower Collins Indeche takes up the blindside flanker position. Biden Hayo starts on the openside, with Gabriel Adero stepping in as number eight following Jeanson Misoga’s injury during the regular season finale.

Roy Maruti, a former Vihiga High School halfback and Christie 7s winner is also set for his senior debut. He will pair up with fly-half Eric Cantona, who replaces playmakers Ntabeni Dukisa and Barry Robinson, both sidelined after Kenya Simbas duty.

The midfield features Walter Okoth, fresh from Elgon Cup success, partnering with Hillary Salano. The back three comprises Victor Otieno on the right wing, Humphrey Asiligwa on the left wing, and Kenya U20 fullback James Olela at fullback.

The bench includes Edward Mwaura and Asuman Mugerwa, both returning from Elgon Cup duty, alongside Andrew Wangila and former Impala lock Shem Joseph, who is back after recovering from surgery.

Jone Kubu is also set to make his first appearance since featuring against Kisumu in 2023, with Collins Osore and Alvin Mutachi completing the matchday squad.

Kabras RFC aim to kick off their season with a strong performance against their Nairobi-based opponents.
