In the first quarter-final, top seeds South Africa will face Uganda, while Great Britain will take on Tonga. Spain is set to clash with Hong Kong China, and Canada will challenge Chile in the remaining matches.
On a captivating Saturday in Monaco, South Africa, Great Britain, and Spain maintained their unbeaten streaks. Great Britain, despite facing a late surge from Canada, persevered with a 17-12 victory after a tense period of defending with only six players on the field due to a yellow card for Ross McCann’s high tackle.
In Pool A, South Africa secured their quarter-final spot by defeating Chile 26-7, with Tristan Leyds making significant contributions including scoring the opening try and setting up another, while Quewin Nortje continued his scoring spree with two tries. Chile, previously unbeaten, also progressed to the quarters after defeating Tonga 35-10.

In Pool B, Canada staged a remarkable comeback from 14-0 down to beat China 33-14, securing their quarter-final berth early. Great Britain topped the pool with a 29-5 victory over Uganda, thanks to Charlton Kerr’s first-half hat-trick. Uganda, despite a loss to Great Britain, secured their quarter-final place with a 33-15 victory over China.
In Pool C, Spain emerged on top after defeating Hong Kong China 35-14, with veteran Pol Pla leading the charge. Hong Kong China bounced back from their earlier defeat to Brazil with a dominant 38-0 win. They will face Spain again in the quarter-finals.
