Nondescripts Rugby picked their first win of 2023/2024 Kenya Cup season after defeating visiting Kisumu RFC 32-16 at RFUEA grounds.

Kisumu RFC drew first blood when Washington Ochieng booted a penalty to give his side a 3-0 lead. Nondies responded through a penalty by fly-half Calvin Sheunda minutes later. Ochieng again stepped up to split the uprights with a penalty moments later after an infringement by Nondies for a 6-3 lead.

Nondies became the first team to score a try when inside center Bruce Odhiambo went over for an unconverted try to give the Red Lions an 8-6 lead. Washington Ochieng good day with the boot continued as he scored another penalty goal to reclaim Kisumu’s lead but the lead was short-lived just before halftime as Nondies fly-half scored a penalty goal to put Nondies 11-9 ahead at the break.

Early on in the second half, Alvin Ketori crossed over for Kisumu’s first and only try of the game. Ochieng converted the try for a 16-11 score. Nondies would then take control of the game in the last quarter as they scored three tries to put the game far-off Kisumu’s reach.

Scrum-half Ian Mumbwani went over for the Red Lions before hooker Oliver Tembo also got his name on the scoresheet. Calvin Sheunda converted both tries for 25-16 score.

In the last stages, Kenyan International Benson Saleh also got a try for Nondies with Calvin Sheunda converting it for a 32-16 win.
