MMUST rugby and Kenya U20 lock Edmond Omondi recently participated in the Dubai 7s under 19 invitational tournament with the Rhino 10 select team.

The event, spanning from Friday, December 1, to Sunday, December 3, concluded with Omondi and his teammates securing a commendable fifth-place finish.

Reflecting on his experience with the Rhinos, Omondi acknowledged the tough competition and expressed satisfaction with his teammates’ performance during the tournament.

He highlighted the learning opportunities both in the team’s camp and on the field.

“The games are more challenging, and the players are really good. I’ve learnt a lot. We finished 5th having our first loss in the main cup quarters,” he told Scrummage Africa.

In a noteworthy development, Omondi, the only Kenyan player selected for the academy side, was scouted based on his national team experience.

Rhino, a Canada-based outfit home to Kenya 7s international winger Collins Shikoli Javan, is reportedly considering Omondi for recruitment, with sources close to the club indicating that he has impressed the technical staff.
