Kenya Lionesses have retained Elgon Cup following an outstanding 87-3 victory over the Uganda Lady Cranes at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium, Mamboleo.

The Lionesses headed to this encounter being the favourites after having featured in the WXV3 with their campaign ending with a 21-5 over Columbia. They headed to this encounter full of confidence and had a brilliant start.

The match began with a great play from the hosts’ side as Sharon Auma opened the score with a try which caught the Cranes unaware giving the Lionesses an early lead of 5-0.

The Lionesses dominated the play and added more tries as Stella Wafula bagged a brace to increase their lead to 29-0.  16 more points from the Lionesses saw them take a massive 45-0 advantage to the break.

In the second half, Uganda’s Lady Cranes’ leaky defence continued to ship in more points. The Lionesses grabbed 42 more points to put the game beyond the Ugandans.

Uganda fought in the last minute and scored a penalty through Tina Akello before the Kenyan number 10 substitute made a dropkick at the 22 to tally the board 87-3.

The women’s Elgon Cup 2023 title remained for Kenya Lionesses after a 87-3 win against the Cranes.
