Kisii University have proven their mettle in the just concluded KUSF western rugby tournament that was held at the Great Lakes University, Kisumu by securing a 5-0 win against Maseno University.
The tournament featured only seven teams after Kaimosi University were banned for fielding ineligible players. Kisii University lost a single match in their pool stage against Maseno University but went on to pick wins against Kibabii University 12-5 and Rongo University 19-12.
In the Semifinals, Kisii played Jaramogi Oginga Odinga securing a 19-07 win and qualification for the finals.
According to Geoffrey, Kisii University Coach, three-quarters of the team comprised freshmen who have been recently admitted to the University.
“I am pleased with my team’s performance and very confident that I have a lengthy victory line ahead as three quarters of the team are first years and have proved stable,” said Geoffrey in an interview with Scrummage Africa.
The team which was playing as the defending Champion was able to retain their title and the coach has expressed unwavering confidence to the team in the next four years.
” I am confident that even if MMUST was present we would still have brought the trophy home because my boys were prepared for anything,” he added.
