Kenya 7s summon 36 for Africa Men’s 7s preps

Kenya 7s provisional squad consisting of 36 players has been named ahead of the preparations for the Africa Mens 7s which will also serve as the Olympic qualifiers.

League leaders Kabras RFC have five of their players Brian Tanga, Kevin Wekesa, William Mwanjii, Jone Kubu, Lamec Ambesta summoned.

KCB and Strathmore Leos

KCB Rugby’s Austin Sikutwa, Vincent Onyala, Elvis Olukusi, Samuel Asati, Festus Shiasi and Strathmore Leos George Ooro, Barnabas Owuor, Brunson Madigu, Nigel Amaitsa and Victor Odhiambo have been called up.

Oilers players summoned include John Okoth, Beldad Ogeta, Steve Arunga and Dennis Abukuse.

Mwamba have the lion’s share with Brian Mutugi, and Stephen Sikuta joining Kenya 7s regulars Ronnie Omondi, Tony Omondi, Daniel Taabu and Billy Odhiambo.

Kenya Harlequin has Herman Humwa, David Mwangi Felix Makokha, Amon Wamalwa, Paul Mutsami while Chrisant Ojwang (Nakuru), Fidens Tony (Nondescripts), Brian Mutua (Homeboyz) have also made the cut.

The 36 man provisional will start preps for matches taking place in Harare, Zimbabwe on 16th/17th  September 2023.

This year’s tournament doubles up as the African Qualification Tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Shujaa have been grouped in Pool B alongside Zambia, Namiba and Nigeria. Pool A features South Africa, Madagascar, Tunisia and Ivory Coast with Pool C comprising of Uganda, hosts Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso and Algeria.
