Kenya Simbas trials, set to take place in Nairobi at RFUEA Grounds on Saturday, have invited 85 rugby players.
Newly appointed Head Coach Jerome Paarwater will select players for the Currie Cup preparations from the 20 Kabras players, 19 KCB players, and 13 Menengai Oilers players.
Seven players from Kenya Harlequin, five from Strathmore Leos, four from Mwamba, three from Nakuru RFC and two from Catholic Monks will all participate.
Kabras with 20 players
George Nyambua, Ephraim Oduor, Hillary Mwanjilwa, Brian Juma Jone Kubu, Eugene Sifuna, Bryceson Adaka, and Teddy Akala, who are regular Kenya Simbas players from Kabras, have been invited to the trials.
Hillary Odhiambo, who has missed out on previous trials, has been invited, along with new signings Lameck Ambetsa, David Bunduki, and Emmanuel Otieno. Other players who have made the cut include scrum-halves Barry Robinson and Dan Angwech, lock Shem Anguyo, former Kenya under-20 captain John Baraka, Walter Okoth, and winger Alfred Orege.
KCB, who were finalists in the Kenya Cup, have 19 players who have been selected for the trials. Among them are Elvis Olukusi, Oscar Simiyu, Thomas Okidia, Wilfred Waswa, Steve Wamae, Geoffrey Okwatch, and other regulars.
Thirteen players from Menengai Oilers, including Davis Nyaundi and Tony Oketch, have made the cut. Kenya Harlequin will be represented by seven players, including Meshack Tunechi, January signings Ian Njenga, Paul Mutsami, and Richel Wangila.
Felix Okoth and fly-half Samuel Mwaura have been chosen from Nakuru RFC, with Timothy Mmasi and Reinhard Mwalati being called up from MMUST.
Samuel Oliech, Brian Amaitsa, and Charles Tendwa, who played in the KRU Championship this season, have also been invited to the trials. Additionally, Joshua Weru, who is currently unattached, has been included in the selection.
The trial session will only evaluate local players with foreign-based players and those who participated in last year’s qualifiers and Currie Cup, and are coming off injuries, set to be incorporated into the team after the trials based on their schedules and their return to fitness.
