The Kenya Rugby Union has officially opened the bidding process for the first tournament of the National Sevens Circuit, scheduled to take place on June 24 and 25, 2023.

The Union is looking for a host team to organize and run the event, with the expectation that the bidding club will generate revenue to assist them in their annual activities.

The National Sevens Circuit, played across six venues, is a significant event that delivers a positive impact and legacy for both the host team and county, and the development of the game locally and nationally. As such, bids will only be accepted from registered affiliated clubs, with clubs that have not hosted the series before particularly encouraged to apply.

“With the return of the local National Sevens Circuit played over 6 venues, Kenya Rugby union
is looking to appoint a host team for the first (1st) Leg of the National Sevens Circuit 2023,” reads part of the statement by KRU.

“A tournament of this significance will deliver a positive impact and legacy for both the host
team and county and the development of the game locally and nationally,” the statement further reads.

Interested clubs must read and fill out the bid document, which contains Kenya Rugby’s requirements and technical description of the tournament. Proposals must be sent to the Kenya Rugby Chief Executive Officer by March 1, and copies must be emailed to ceo@kru.co.ke and competitions@kru.co.ke.

After the bidding period closes, a panel set up by the Chairman of the League and Fixtures Committee will evaluate all bids within seven days of the closing. A decision will be communicated within 48 hours of the evaluation. Should a site visit and/or pitch inspection be required before finalizing the process, the same shall also be communicated. A final ground inspection shall be carried out 30 days before the event to confirm the suitability of the venue, pitch, and amenities.

The National Sevens Circuit is a highly anticipated event, and the bidding process is expected to be competitive. The successful host team will have the opportunity to showcase their love for the sport and put their club on the map, while also creating a positive impact on the local community and the development of the game in Kenya.
