Kenya Cup newbies Catholic Monks defeated Mwamba RFC 24-23 in a Kenya Cup match played at the Madaraka Grounds on Saturday 17 December 2022.

An experienced Mwamba RFC welcomed Kenya Cup amateurs Catholic Monks to the Madaraka Grounds in a match that would surprise rugby lovers afterwards.

Monks headed to the match in search of their first win of the season, while Mwamba RFC were looking to extend their winning streak from last week when they beat Blak Blad RFC.

They were however silenced by the tough students who knew that a loss was not an option. Catholic Monks have now climbed to position eight on the table.

Mwamba RFC managed tries from Paul Opiyo and Gideon Mbithi among others. Infringements from the visitors saw them punished, adding six more points to Mwamba, which Kerry Otieno scored.

Catholic Monks on the other hand scored their tries through the boots of Samuel Omollo and Maxwell Omondi among other try scorers.

Having picked their first win, the Monks will be keen to start next year with flying wins, as they will begin their campaign with a clash against Kenya Harlequins RFC.

Mwamba RFC on the other hand will lock horns with Strathmore Leos next year. They will be keen to pick a win to keep their dreams of finishing in the top four alive.
