Moi Arsonists, UON, TUM qualify for Varsity League quarter-finals

Moi University overpowered Cooperative University 35-00 in a match played at the Moi University Rugby Grounds on Saturday, November 12, 2022.

The team was led by Tony Khadambi, who showed a sigh of relief when his boys registered their first clean sheet.

It was Emmanuel who first put his name on the scoresheet from a well-worked-out try that saw Moi lead by five points. An attempt to convert went wide.

A ball in the ruck would see the Arsonists get penalised, but the visitors failed to collect the points.

The confident Arsonists then played on, with proper lineouts and scrums which seemed to be Cooperative’s weak point.

Infringements from the Nairobi-based campus saw the hosts earn six more points off the boots of Allan Shavola before the end of the opening half.

Minutes into the second half, the Arsonists’ powerful scrum dragged Cooperative to their red zone, and Michael Ochieng went over with their second try of the day which Shavola successfully converted.

From the lineout, Moses Ngaira made his try and Allan Shavola added the extras.  Emmanuel Okello and Ronald Ndira also scored for the hosts, as Shavola converted to bring the final time scores to 35-00.

The Arsonists have qualified for the Kenya Varsity League quarter-finals.

TUM OVERPOWER MERU RFC

Hillary Meshack starred in the highly contested match as TUM proved to be superior than Meru RFC with a 22-10 win in on the same grounds.

MEAN MACHINE BEAT KABARAK UNIVERSITY

Mean Machine have also qualified for the quarters after defeating Kabarak University 25-7.

The quarter-finals will be held in Mombasa on 19th November, 2022.
