Kabras RFC are winners of the Inaugural Victoria 15s  preseason tournament after a 17-13 win over MMUST in final played at Kakamega Showground on Saturday.

The Kenya Cup Champions managed three tries in the match which was won by just four points.

MMUST score early

MMUST were first to enter the score sheet after Nelson Babu picked a loose ball off a Kabras breakdown to race clear and score. Eri Cantona missed the conversion as MMUSt led 5-0.

Kabras responded immediately after  David Williams was set up by Malik Habil to score at the corner. Dukisa failed to split the posts to tie the score 5-5

Kabras would stretch their later through Barry Robinson who was set by Jeanson Musoga who picked a ball at the back of a scrum in MMUST 22 to offload to him. Dukisa failed to add the extras, the scores reading 10-5

The Sugarmen were at again minutes later when they scored their third try through Alfered Orege. Dukisa made amends to his earlier kickings to add the extras through conversion for a 17-5 Kabras lead.

MMUST would later add 3 points to their score after Eric Cantona sliced the posts with a drop goal to send the scores to 17-8

Kabras were later reduced to 14 men after Natbeni Dukisa was sent to the naughty chair.

The last action of the first half saw Cantona miss a penalty, with the score remaining 17-8 at halftime.

Second half

Kabras thought they had scored at the start in the second half through Walter Okoth, but the referee after consulting with his assistant called off the try as the ball was knocked.

Minutes later and MMUST were presented with an opportunity to reduce the deficit through a penalty, but Cantona’s kick sailed wide the score remaining 17-8.

MMUST would have the last say of the game when Lameck Ambetsa was put through by Erick Cantona’s kick to score the only try of the second half but it was too little too late.  The conversion was missed as the game ended 17-13, Kabras win.
