Likoni, South Coast Pirates Academy and Shimba Hills had impressive starts in the ongoing Diani Beach Rugby 7s tournament organized by South Coast Pirates.
The tournament is set to enter day two on Sunday with the final matches fixtures set to take place at Safari Beach Hotel Diani.
Likoni first win
Likoni RFC were the first to open the business of the day taking on Waa Boys high school. After a series of try-searching attempts, it was Omar Makaba who finally broke the deadlock taking advantage of Waa Boys knock on to stage an electric run to dash over the try box, Jeremiah Kilelu added the extras for a 7-0 lead in favour of Likoni at the breather.
Upon resumption of second half, Makaba was at it again side-stepping Waa’s defence to complete his brace,Kilelu missed the twos for a 12-0 advantage.
Later on in the dying minutes, Hope Onyango sealed the victory for Likoni with a well-calculated move that saw him easily beat Waa to score the unconverted try, 17-0.
In the second game, Kaya Tiwi versus Mombasa RFC academy battle for a barren first half. Later on in the second Half, despite dominating the match,2018 Coast regional sevens champion Kaya Tiwi failed to convert their chances, an event that they had themselves to blame,.
Mombasa RFC capitalising on their sole chance, winger Shawn Buluma crossed over the try line for a match-winning try, he added the extra to end the game 7-0.
The third game of the day saw host South Coast Pirates Academy run riot over Vikings with a 34-0 win.
Cedric Odhiambo was the first on the score sheet with an unconverted try in the first kick off, Austin Oduor later added a brace for a 19-0 lead in the first half.
In the second half Abdul Mwaleso, scored two quick unconverted tries to stretch their lead to 29-0.
John Carlos hit the last nail in Vikings coffin with yet another unconverted try.\
