MMUST Rugby Club, Kabras RFC, KCB Rugby, Kenya Harlequin were the latest sides to book places in Sunday’s Prinsloo 7s Cup quarters while Homeboyz and Strathmore Leos were the only sides to keep a perfect record on day one.
Homeboyz topped Pool A with a 100% win record after a 24-5 win over Catholic Monks. The win saw the Deejayz end day one with nine points and for another outing, they head to quarters as Pool winners.
They were joined in the quarters by Kabras RFC who got a 20-0 win in the Kakamega Derby over Western Bulls. Kabras have seven points in the pool while Catholic Monks have four points Bulls end the day with three points.
MMUST Rugby Club sealed a place in the last eight after beating Menengai Oilers 12-10 in the final pool match. The win saw the three teams end their day one matches with seven points. MMUST locked out Nakuru RFC following a better point differential. Nakuru had beaten Kisumu RFC 17-5 but will have to settle for the Challenge Trophy.
Kenya Harlequin and KCB Rugby qualified for the quarters from pool C. Quins won the Ngong Road-Derby 21-19 to move to seven points in Pool C. KCB Rugby who suffered a shocking 19-15 defeat to Nondies reached the last eight with seven points having won their openers to pick six points. It was KCB’s first Group stage loss this season.
Strathmore Leos topped Pool D beating Prinsloo 7s defending Champions Mwamba 12-7 in the final match of the day. The two had earlier qualified for the quarters and Leos head to the last eight with a 100% win record with nine points while Mwamba have seven points. Blak Blad beat Vihiga Granites 19-7 to settle for the third spot.
