Uganda unveil squad for Kenya Simbas date

Uganda Cranes Head Coach Fred Mudoola has named his matchday squad that will take on Kenya Simbas on Saturday, June 2 at the Stade Maurice-David in Aix-en-Provence at 1600hrs.

Philip Wokorach has been named at full-back and is joined in the back three by former Kenya Harlequins winger Solomon Okia on the open side and Lawrence Ssebuliba on the blind side.

Former Kabras RFC center Pius Ogena and Innocent Gotkwo have been tasked with midfield duties. Paul Epilo starts at number nine with captain Ivan Magomu starting at fly-half.

Ex Mwamba and Kenya Harlequin backrower Scott Oluoch has been handed a start at number eight with Chisano Joaquim and Kenya Harlequin Mark Omoding on the flank. Eliphaz Emong and Charles Uhuru form the second row.

Santos Ssenteza, Faragi Odugo, and former captain Asuman Mugerwa are in the front row.

The two sides will be facing off for the first time since 2019 with their annual Elgon Cup face-off having been halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020 and 2021 editions were canceled.

The last times they met, the Simbas beat Uganda 16-5 at Kyadondo Grounds to win the fourth consecutive Elgon Cup title.  The Simbas had lost the first leg encounter held in Kisumu’s Mamboleo Grounds 16-13.

The Simbas have been dominant in this fixture winning eight of the last 10 meetings. They have suffered one loss and shared spoils once in the last 10 meetings. Kenya leads the overall head-to-head in matches played between the two teams pre and post-Elgon Cup with 25 wins while Uganda has registered 12 wins.

Fans will be able to follow the match head-to-head, K24 and K24plus App.
