Menengai Oilers stop KCB to book Mwamba in Driftwood 7s final

Menengai Oilers and Mwamba Rugby Club will face off the Driftwood 7s final scheduled for Sunday evening at Mombasa Sports Club.

Mwamba Rugby Club featuring in the first-ever semi-final this season came from behind to beat Homeboyz 10-5.

A closely contested first half saw the sides head to the break tied at 5-5. Homeboyz were first to strike, capitalising on a loose pass in Mwamba’s five. Mwamba’s Eliakim Kichoi would score in the corner, capitalising on an overload to pull Kulabu level as they went into the break tied at 5-5.

Kichoi then showed why he is the skipper, latching onto a pass to race 40 meters to score sending kulabu into their first final this season. For the second time this season, Homeboyz journey has ended at the semi-final stage.

Menengai Oilers will also play their first final this season after silencing KCB Rugby with a 19-0. Oilers scored first in the match, Chrispin Shitundo caught the green defence napping at the ruck to pick and raced away for a try.

Oilers scored their second to head into the break with a 12-0 lead. Oilers continued their onslaught with a well worked try started by an Austin Sikutwa break before a series of offloads broke the green defence for their third and final try.

The win has seen Oilers end the winless run in the semis against KCB Rugby. They had lost the last two semi-final to Bankers at Kabeberi 7s and Christie 7s.

KCB and Homeboyz will face off in the Bronze final.
